Download Time: The Juan Maclean - Happy House

Love this single. Happy House was released March 4th on DFA Records. Interestingly enough, Juan Maclean was the guitar player for Six Finger Satellite from Providence, RI. James Murphy, co-founder of DFA, joined Six Finger Satellite in some capacity (sound guy?) before moving to New York where he co-founded LCD Soundsystem and DFA Records. After Six Finger Satellite broke up, Juan Maclean got out of the music biz for awhile and got a degree. Story has it, Murphy persuaded Maclean to start cuttin' tracks again, and he did. Now he's cuttin' tracks and it's a good thing. You should go out and buy the 12", it comes with various remixes and was released on a worth while label who appears to still be profiting off the sales of 12" vinyl singles. Maybe thats not true, but they do a good job of appearing as such.

Download Time: Holy Shit - Whole Life Story

Holy Shit is from Los Angeles and made this song a few years ago. I'm not sure if it ever came out and it's no longer on the myspace page but it's a gem of a song, so viola. Human Ear Music may have some insight.

Community Shorts is coming to LA and NY

Been out of the loop for a couple of days, whoa. I've been working fervently on the PLANET PEOPLE summer mix tape. We're anticipating a summer full of BBQ's, beach days and trips to Mexico, a summer mix is needed.

Anyway, Community Shorts is having a short-film screening of various filmmakers from around the country (some well known, some who take residence on my couch) this Thursday in New York, and this Sunday in Los Angeles. Felipe, the man behind the wheel, and his cohorts have been working tirelessly over the past few months to see these events through, and frankly we're all happy to see the chaos and abuse be done with. Surely, Felipe will soon find something else to unhealthily obsess over, but it's the space in between we're betting on. Fingers crossed.

The events are free, but you gotta RSVP. Why? No god damn idea. There's also free booze and DJ's. A good time is ensured for all.

Here's the Info:

New York:
Thursday May 29
Black Swan Wines project space
SoHo (70 Greene St)

RSVP for New York

Los Angeles:
Sunday June 1
Evil Monito space
Echo Park (1830 Echo Park Ave)

RSVP for Los Angeles

A Charming Jonathan Richman

A good tune, take note of the kneeling guitar solo. A little thing i'd like to call chutzpah.

Lovin KD Lang

KD lang was and is quite the performer. Here she is some years ago singing Johnny Get Angry. Is it ironic that she sings a submissive song about girl's relationship with a man? Hey, you're tellin me!

Download Time: Ah Ah Oh No

Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe's famous "Ah Ah O No" is todays jam, and the song that turned me on to the men who played a significant role in New York's Puerto Rican music scene. We posted a You Tube video for this song, and now it is yours to keep.

California Overturns the Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

As people of the planet, we're very happy about our wonderful state of California. The US gets a bad rap around the world, and when faced with a sometimes embarrassing confrontation in a potentially hostile foreign environment, we say "hey, we're from California." Works every time. The world may hate our blood spilling foreign policy and self serving global posture, but they love California. And why shouldn't they? We're responsible for blue jeans, hippies, free love, tie-dye, skateboarding, high auto emission standards, low riders, movies, legal weed, the bloods and the crips, wheat grass shots... come fucking on, that shit is indisputable. And as of yesterday, we're the second state in the country to legalize same-sex marriage. BABEH! Props t0 Massachusetts for being the first, and word to the California Supreme Court for keeping it real.

Crack a dutch California, and may we all live in harmony.

Nasty Argentine Cumbia from Buenos Aires. Blatant unsophistication, potty language and pissing off religious leaders is surely something we can all appreciate.

R. Stevie Moore

R. Stevie Moore has been making weird pop absurdities since his first release in 1976. He has released over 400 home recordings through the R. Stevie Moore Cassette Club, as well as officially released records. Fun Fact: his dad Bob Moore was the session bass player for Elvis..whoa. Feel the groove...

Download Time

Last time Weezy and R. Kelly were on a joint together it was Fat Joe's "Make It Rain (REMIX)." They brought their A-game with flagrant disregard for women and lush boasts of expendable riches. Here's a lyrical sample:

Lil Wayne: "I throw up more cash, and change the forecast"

R. Kelly: "Don't ask me what my name is, stupid bitch I'm Famous"

Enjoy another calab from the best in the biz

Diego Maradona

USA has Babe Ruth, Argentina has Diego Maradona.  Years of rampant cocaine use and whoring haven't done much in the way of tarnishing the reputation of the former futbol champion.  After the humiliating defeat Argentina suffered in The War of the Falkland Islands against England (1982), it was Diego Maradona that scored two goals  to deafeat England in a world cup match, (1986) thus restoring pride to the Argentine people.  Here is the second of those goals.

The fact that Maradona clearly scored the first of those goals with his hand is an additional source of gratification for the Argentines, and that goal has since become known as "la mano de dios" or "the hand of God."  Here is a song that is dedicated to that historical moment and the man behind the myth.
